So, tomorrow begins my back to school without kiddos. This should be interesting to say the least... I get to meet the new Assistant Principal and ask very politely for my schedule and list of kids for one school and wonderfully start my binder of school related taskery. Not to mention, this permanently ends my sleeping in. This will suck.
On a brighter note, tomorrow I will update with a few more bands.

An attempt in catching up...
Ok, so I really do suck at this, but not as bad as Charina...
The last few weeks have been chaotic, as I've been house sitting everywhere. The last house, while nice and comfy, had no internet. Actually, worse than none, dial up. I was pretty sure that dial up was extinct, but apparently it lives on. Being that I don't hate my computer, I couldn't possibly allow it to connect in such a barbaric fashion. Unfortunately, that meant that I got very little done via internet over the past 18 days. While I don't have 18 days worth of bands, I will give you two for now and we shall catch up steadily.
Tinted Win
dows is a band I recently heard while attending a U.S. Royalty show. For any former/current Hanson fans, I'm sure you'll get a tickle out of this. Taylor Hanson has formed a side project away from his brotherly trio. Along with James Iha (Smashing Pumpkins), Adam Schlesinger (Fountains of Wayne & Ivy) as well as Bun E. Carlos (Cheap Trick circa 1974), the band was formed. Recently, Tinted Windows played South by South West and released a self titled album. I can honestly say that while I wasn't a huge Hanson fan, this combination was certainly worth seeing. They have certainly found an interesting combination of members, which has added to their eclectic sound.
Gogol Bo
rdello is a band I heard a few years ago, and was certain had fallen off the face of the earth. This band has been one of the most interesting I have ever listened to. The band has best been described as Euro-gypsy and Russian Indie. This 8 member band is comprised of Eugene Hütz - Vocals, Oren Kaplan - Guitar, Sergey Ryabtsev - Violin, Yury Lemeshev - Accordion, Pamela Racine - Percussion, dance, Elizabeth Sun - Percussion, dance, Thomas "Tommy T" Gobena - Bass,
Pedro Erazo - MC, and Oliver Charles - Drums. They have a fun sound and are definitely great for those days when you just don't want to take it serious anymore. However, this band has also made it a point to persue causes which may not seem to register on the media. Their most recent being the oldest Rom settlement in the world: Sulukule in Istanbul, Turkey. They posted bits and pieces of their trip there, along with photos. Definitely check their site out, as well as listen to their tunes. This is a fun loving band, which is almost certain to lighten the mood (not to mention, throw your friends off on a mixed tape)!

Caught in a wave of Harry Potter
Ok, it's not my fault that nothing was posted yesterday. I actually spent quite a bit of time with a friend of mine, catching up on the Harry Potter movies of previous days. I have not seen my computer since about 2 pm yesterday. I apologize.
For you, there are two new bands to try out!

The first is a group I met a while back at a U.S. Royalty concert. While I've listened to Bear Hands live, I really haven't listened to them since. After a few listens, I actually love their group. From what I remember of this group, they are all very personable and uncommonly honest guys. Bear Hands is a sweet little unsigned foursome from Brooklyn, NY. They travel all over the U.S. and abroad. Their upcoming shows include Boston, MA, Hartford, Ct, and a few spots in the U.K. I really like this band, and can't wait to see them again. Check them out, give them some love!

Another one of the bands I've found lately has been SchulzeMeierLehmann. Sound long? Sound German? You'd be right. But the interesting thing about this group has been that they are at least tri-lingual. They speak at least a degree of English, enough to answer Myspace questions, and even more interesting they can speak spanish as well. In their song Tanzflur, they combined both spanish and german in a very interesting match. The down side to this band is that it's a little hard to get tickets, as they play throughout Germany. So if you're heading over somewhere around Freiburg/Mannheim area, check and see if you can catch a show. They're well worth it.
Enjoy!

New Day... New Band
Ok.. So I'm in the midst of downloading the complete discography of Gordon Lightfoot for my father. He is very excited because Gordon Lightfoot will be traveling out way soon, and as a kind gesture, I'm going with him. No one else in the house likes poor, sad Gordon. I happen to, and it's not such a bad thing to hang out with my Dad either.
So, in light of all of this, I think it's only fitting to find us anther band.
Love&Reverie is an emerging band from Richmond, VA. "In Richmond, where lush atmospheric soundscapes take the backseat to the brazen, fast and heavy, Love&Reverie were given a blank slate. They weren't limited by local standards or trends. The musical freedom left room for discovery and innovation, and it still does." Their music is reminiscent of Armor For Sleep and Cute is What We Aim For, blending Pop-Rock and genuine lyrics, and leaving you with their own unique blend. They're as interesting a band as they are a combination. These five guys formed their band from childhood friendships and previous band arrangements. They currently have several gigs lined up for them in VA and NC, but who knows?! Check them out at Love&Reverie.

June was rubbish.
Sorry, but it's true. It seems as though June and most of July was rubbish. In my feeble attempts to resurrect this blog, I will give you one new band a day. This will require quite a bit of work on my part, but I think you're worth it. These will not repeat, nor will they be bands I listen to frequently. These will be new bands, unsigned, or unknown. So here goes:
Today's new Band of the Day is The Blims. The Blims are a four piece band from Bridgend (UK) and describe their music as a "breezy sing-along tune." But in reality, their music is well written and combines acoustic and electric with finesse. While their site isn't fully functional as of yet, you can certainly check out their info and listen to their songs under their media section. They currently have two albums out, their first being "Tell Everybody" and their most recent "Working Class Poetry." Their tunes are certainly catchy and can bring you right out of your work day funk. It seems to be a really fun group whom I would love to see. However, it seems that we'll have to wait for a U.S. tour. Maybe some day! Until then, give them your love!

is anybody out there?
What an interesting day...
While at school, we were forced into a fire drill because the alternate generator caught fire/started to billow smoke. It was fun. My room is closest to the generator, so it smelled the worst. We lost power twice while this was going on. I was really hoping for a shortened day, but no luck there.
After getting out of school, text messages began pouring into my phone. At Margaret Brent I don't get signal, so everything waits till I get out. There were so many coming in, and all at once, that my phone became overloaded. By the time I had made it to Staples I had no charge left, whatsoever. Thankfully, someone at my house loves me enough to have brought my charger.
After Staples, I made it home to find a very depressed Greggypoo in the kitchen. He had little dots in his ears, and I couldn't figure it out. He came down to my room with me and told me he had gotten his ears pierced today. I have to say, he'd really look good with earrings. He has that kind of face. But he didn't have any earrings in. Greg-poo told me that because Mom and Dad freaked out a bit, he had to take them out. I think that's bullshit. They argued that in the professional world the senior management are all my father's age, and peircings were only for women, bikers and gays. But that doesn't quite hold up considering several of my fathers's friends his own age have piercings and are in senior management. I think it's just my father's own prejudice. But the story didn't stop there. As Greg tried to right this injustice he made mention that I have had a tattoo in plain sight for 5 months now, and no one has noticed. Furthermore, I have also seemed to manage getting a higher paid job, and work in a field where tattoos are not the norm, but certainly not frowned upon either. Mom knew about the tattoo, Dad has been oblivious for 5 months. So now my father is talking to no one... oh fun!

Let's blog about our ideals...
So, I think Charina and I can safely admit that we are not the most avid of bloggers. In fact, it's already the 16th and this will be our first blog since then. But I promise, we've been busy little ones.
My copy center has taken a huge turn for the worst since Charina left to go work in Clinton. Our lead does nothing all day. Nothing we pass down gets done, throwing us way behind where we should be. On top of that, she feels the need to jump into our personal lives and go through files which were not hers to go through. I don't tend to mind people going through my work files that are saved on the work computer, but there was a line that was crossed when she went through files on my jump drive that I had left behind. Everyone knows that it's mine, so it wasn't a surprise to her. These did have files from work, but there were also files from school with student's information and my personal information. She had no business going through it. This, of course, has lead to a ton of tension. The other girl in copy center is leaving and I may not be that far behind her. Neeners and Greg are about to graduate, hopefully. We all know Greg is going to walk, but Neeners has been struggling. She needs to get motivated in school and not worry about everything else. As it is, she quit her job so that she could focus, but what seems to have happened is that she is focusing on Jacob, her boyfriend, rather than school. While I've been trying to work with her, I can only do so much because she's out a lot. She wants help, but I have to be here on her schedule. Well, shit doesn't always work that way. I've been busy and on the weekends, when I can, I like to hang out with my friends or take a nap. I don't sleep in any day of the week and my only resolution to that issue is my ritual Sunday Nap. I love Sunday Nap, and I'm not giving that up. We'll see how this goes. More updates to come on Neeners graduation status.
Charina... well she's struggling in her copy center as well. Since changing positions, she thought she was going to work earlier, and be able to run her copy center efficiently. Not so much. Her manager will not give her the relevant information she needs to fill her books, nor will he give her the passwords so that she can do it herself. She's constantly working nights and taking the 45 minute drive home anywhere between 9:30 and 10:30 at night, but she's going in at 1. She doesn't get lunches or breaks. I completely understand her frustration with the job and I know how badly she'd like to quit. She's been toughing it all out for the sake of DC and I have nothing but respect and admiration for her. Her hope is that she can go back to school and get the job with Joey, her brother-in-law. Then she can get the hell out of there.
On the plus side, we've bought bicycles. We've taken them out and they are fun. I don't think they are my replacement for my car quite yet, seeing as I don't live and work within a close range. But hopefully, when I move, things will be closer and we can consider them as alternatives!
